1970 Arctic Cat Puma 399 EXT

It is published that only 38 of this model was produced. As a Puma EXT this originally had dual carburetors and some engine porting done to the 399cc Kohler engine. This snowmobile was purchased by Toms dad Wayne when it was a few months old out of the salvage department at Arctic Enterprises. It had spent the winter in at least a few races but we do not know by whom it was driven. It arrived here with a hand built auxillary rear fuel tank affixed to the back of the sled. The tank was discarded years ago but the mounting holes still remain today. A young guy that would soon become Waynes son-in-law purchased this from Wayne and rode it for at least a few years. It was while Don owned it that the original EXT engine had a catastrophic failure and he installed a new non-EXT engine into it. Don sold this off in about 1973 or 74 and it was forgotton about. It showed up here in about 2001 needing a lot of work, we recognized it as Dons old sled anbd we purchased it again. Much of this is original condition but we did some major repair on the steel bulkhead, rebuilt the engine, clutch, etc. Things like the hood, seats, etc are completely original.It runs/rides well today.
